WASMO desired to have a third-party assessment of the performance of the In-village water supply schemes of the State of Gujarat. UNICEF Gujarat State Office came forward to support the study and partnered with SIGMA Foundation, a ‘not for profit’ organization, for the said assessment. The assessment was conducted through primary survey and to cover several dimensions of performance of the schemes, in terms of management of the water supply system, O&M practices followed, financial management and quality of delivery of services to the consumers and ways for possible improvement. The report was submitted to UNICEF Gujarat State Office. As per the Pani Samitis the coverage of the PWSS was 91% across the villages in the state, which is one of the highest in the country. Three types of sources were found to be used for the supply. For the purpose of storage of water, most IVWSSs had both underground (or GLCC) and Over-Head Reservoirs (OHR). The report provides the status of performance of the IVWSSs, the O&M Practices, the level of satisfaction of the villagers and other demand side issues and the required improvement.
