Training Module on Water Source Sustainability in Birbhum
Contributed By: Dr. M.N. Roy, Dr. Debasri Mukherjee, Mr. Ritaban MitraOn account of various constraints, only about 1122 bcm of water is assessed as the annual utilizable water, having surface water resources component of 690 bcm and ground water component of 433bcm. As a result, in this present situation, the available groundwater resource fails to meet the demands of the growing population. Therefore, it is high time to think about the management and restoration of the groundwater resource for sustainable development. The module projects a view on per capita water status and availability, its geology, ground water scenario and mapping of groundwater potential zones. Measures of water conservation and artificial recharge have been discussed in details in the module.
