Technical Manual on Upgrading the Water Quality Testing Laboratories Through Good Lab Practice Model (GLPM) in Assam
Contributed By: Dr. M.N. Roy, Dr. Debasri Mukherjee, Er. Sohini Tarafdar, Mr. Rajarshi BannerjeeA Technical Manual was developed for the trainees of the District Level laboratories of Assam. The manual was designed in three parts with Part 1 as overview of Good Lab Practice Model (GLPM) for Water Quality Analysis in Lab System, Instrument Handling & Maintenance in Lab for chemical analysis of drinking water and Rapid Membrane Filtration Technique (RMFT) for bacteriological analysis of drinking water.
A detailed definition of GLPM, its importance and principles are thoroughly discussed in the manual. A light is also thrown upon the sanitary survey, its application and protocol are thoroughly explained. Principle, functioning and maintenance of the instrument, calibration related to the equipment and the precautions to be taken while handling them are discussed in the Instrument handling section. The basic principle of Rapid membrane Filtration Technique (RMFT) followed by setting up of the equipment and methodology of the technique is provided in a detailed flow. Interpretation of the result and the advantages of MF technique over traditional MPN technique for bacteriological analysis of drinking water is also discussed.
