Water quality monitoring through laboratory is the foundation on which water quality management is based. Good water quality monitoring & surveillance provides the information that permits rational decisions to be made on the following: i) describing lab management system and identifying actual water quality problems, ii) emerging new problems into drinking water, iii) priority based water quality management and formulating new action plan, iv) implementing ‘Uniform Drinking Water Quality Protocol’ under water quality management system as per MDWS, v) evaluating the monthly progress reports and measure the effectiveness of the refresher training programme.

Link between the critical assessment and water quality monitoring is highlighted in detailed outlook. Monitoring with knowledge, setting the training scene and context along with a list of key scenes setting activities are the major components of the technical manual for master trainers. The Training mode, time and facilitation skills are conceptually presented with the help of pictorial graphics. The technical manual was developed with a concept of producing master trainers for water quality monitoring in the laboratory system.
